Trace metals analysis in baby food using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)

This study outlines a streamlined workflow for the accurate determination of toxic elements in various baby foods. An automated, reproducible acid digestion procedure coupled with a sensitive triple quadrupole ICP-MS method enables the precise quantification of a broad spectrum of trace elements. This approach ensures compliance with stringent regulations such as the Baby Food Safety Act of 2021, which mandates maximum allowable levels of inorganic arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury in baby foods. Beyond toxic elements, this study also evaluates essential minerals to provide a comprehensive elemental profile of diverse baby food products.
